Last year we took the difficult but necessary decision that a 2021 production was not possible. Since then we have explored every possible safe and enjoyable alternatives for the company in 2022 but in the end decided these were not viable.
The requirements for risk assessments, mitigation measures, social distancing, possible effect on audience numbers and the general well-being and enjoyment of all involved have led to the decision that the safest option is to focus our attention on preparing for a 2023 return (hopefully with a March production) and a return to more 'normal ' circumstances.
So what's next?
Having taken these decisions, we are only too aware of the impact this break will have on our wonderful company, crew, musicians, creative team, suppliers and of our our audiences. Between now and a 2023 production we know we will have a big rebuilding job:
To encourage past and new members to re-join us after such an extended break;
To engage with our creative team to see the best way to start to move forward again;
To reconnect with the multitude of those who work behind the scenes and front of house without whom a show cannot go ahead;
To rest assure our loyal and supportive patrons/audiences that it is safe to return and will be once again enjoyable.
All being well, over the Summer (2022) we will begin to look at these challenges and see how we can begin to get back t where we were pre pandemic.
How can you help?
You can help us in a number of ways:
- As we restart, feel free to share our updates with your our family and friends on social media or word of mouth. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram.
- When the time comes, become a patron, sell tickets, buy tickets and most importantly, encourage others to do the same.
- It is currently costing Gala Opera around £1000 a year to service on going commitments (insurance, licences, storage, etc) While it is not the purpose of this update, should you feel as a patron that you would like to continue your patronage, even in a small way, this would be hugely appreciated.
