What’s Sweet Charity all about?

Our next production 'Sweet Charity' (4th -9th March 2019) tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a down on her luck dance hall hostess who longs to find love.

The music is by Cy Coleman, Lyrics by Dorothy Fields, Book by Neil Simon.

Charity, and a number of her friends work at the seedy Fandango Ballroom, owned by Herman. Charity and her sassy friends are all pretty fed up of working there and all hope to find Mr Right some day. Charity is particularly hopeful and even after being pushed in the lake by her man of the moment, she remains eternally optimistic.

Set in New York City during the 1960s, Sweet Charity consists iconic songs, such as Big Spender, If they could see me know and the Rhythm of Life, to name a few.

To accompany this fantastic score, Bob Fosse style chorography sets this show apart from so many others. Gala Opera aims to pay homage to the work of Fosse whilst producing our own take on some of the classic songs.

Between, spending the night in a closet belonging to an international film star and getting stuck in a lift with a claustrophobic accountant, Charity continues to search for who she really is and where her happiness really lies - is the answer much closer than she thinks?

Make sure you join Charity and all her top drawer first rate chums in March 2019. Ticket dates will be made available at the beginning of 2019.
